OUR PICKS: SUPER BOWL LIII COMMERCIALS

Most of us, in advertising, don’t really care much about the Super Bowl. What we care about, on the other hand, are the commercials that air during the show.

Monday morning; we brew our favorite coffee, we sit by our desks, check morning e-mails and then we (re)watch all the commercials. That’s basically how every morning after the final has been for years.

Anyways, we discussed it all between us, voted our best ads and gave our thoughts. Here are our top picks for Super Bowl 2019 LIII commercials.

MORE THAN OK by PEPSI

Seno: Drink too much Pepsi and you’ll need Cardi-O. On the other hand, If Michael Scott says Pepsi is “More than OK” then I assume Pepsi is “More than OK!”

Enko: YEAH! *Still goes and buys Coke. Ok? Ok.

Voislav: “It is Pepsi ok?” it’s very well-known saying when you want to make joke on the expense of Pepsi. So, they take this saying, twist around with the help of Steve Carell and make a great commercial.

Stefan: Pepsi continues to utilize starpower in this latest attempt to convince that their beverage is much better than its biggest competitor. The ad starts with the unwritten truth that people only asks for Pepsi when there is no Coke available. Shortly, an interesting combo of stars appears in what feels like a strong push to make us prefer Pepsi instead of Coke. A little too strong if you ask me.

THE ELEVATOR by HYUNDAI

Enko: Cool one especially since we are used of car commercials that have 4836438391 shots of the car. And yes, give Captain Colon a Hyundai too!

Stefan: This short but sweet ad is packed with relevant content that achieves its goal of shell-casing the benefits of the opportunity for you to try and buy Hyndai online. Also, you can’t go wrong with Jason Bateman.

Seno: I don’t know what Voislav will write but I already know I will disagree with him. The first part was OK, though it can apply for any brand out there. The second part of the ad feels forced and I just didn’t buy into it.

Voislav: Life is an elevator and your floor of exit depends on the level of how good or bad the experience is. Great concept mixed with the humor of Jason Bateman and you have very good commercial about buying cars.

CHANGE UP THE USUAL by STELLA ARTOIS

Voislav: Carry Bradshaw and Big Lebowski walks into a bar and they order Stella Artois.

Seno: Great idea, great execution. And the fact that everyone pronounces Stella Artois differently is just a next level meta joke. Maybe my fave.

Stefan: An unusual meeting of two legendary characters willing to let go of their legendary drinks in order to have some Belgian beer. Wholesome and creative.

Enko: Stella and the City. And Big Lebowski. The Dude abides, who am I to tell you something else.

MICHAEL BUBLE VS BUBLY by BUBLY

Stefan: It features Michael Buble, so no.

Enko: I guess everyone who succeeds in making a funny ad with Michael Bubly is a winner.

Voislav: If Michael Buble can teach me how to correctly pronounce this not very known product, it’s very successful commercial.

Seno: My whole life I’ve been jokingly pronouncing him Michael Bubble, so yeah, had fun watching it!

NOT EVERYTHING MAKES THE CUT by AMAZON

Enko: Oh yeah. The ad itself has enough material for a future movie…about the future, that can be a little creepy if we really let Alexa run stuff.

Voislav: It’s Marvel type of commercial. Good humor, very-good known actors and great CGI.

Seno: It’s so good that Harrison Ford actually cared enough to act properly!

Stefan: Don’t stop Amazon’s Alexa aka SKYNET nooooow….. Just kidding, you can’t!

SAD DEVICE by PRINGLES

Voislav: First you mix different types of Pringles. After that add an Alexa joke. Bon appetite.

Stefan: No Pringles for you SKYNET! He He He

Enko: Julius Pringles, why you do the lady like that? On the side note, good one…play Funky Town!

Seno: Jesus, you can stack different tastes of Pringles!?

BUDLIGHT x GAME OF THRONES by BUDLIGHT

Seno: Not a big fan of Game of Thrones, but I kinda enjoyed the ad overall. Like Stefan told me the other day: “You listen to metal, of course you gonna enjoy an ad with dragons in it.”

Stefan: An excellent alliance forged between two of our realm’s mightiest brands. But do you know what else is excellent? Amazon’s Alexa… (hopefully now they’ll have my family released)

Voislav: Winter is coming with a Bud Knight on a horse.

EnkoWHERE’S MY PAMPERS STINKY BOOTY AD?!
